Lyrics on religion and humanity in Konkani CD "Challis Dis"

Lyrics on religion and humanity

by J P Pereira

Liby’s Production latest release is the 14th audio album from Socorro de Sta Cruz. Titled ‘Challis dis’, the programme has 12 songs by different artistes all of which are pleasant with nice lyrics and musical arrangements.‘Chailis dis’, refers to the 40 days of lent that Christians observe, before the celebration on Easter Sunday. Many individuals refrain from liquor, vices and luxuries during these 40 days but are back to square one, after Easter Sunday. Socorro sings about this, on the opening song of the album. Sonia illustrates the importance of human limbs and organs on ‘Sandhe’, ‘Saud Bolaiki’ is by Lawry and ‘Konkani Uloi’ by Priyanka, Sonia and Socorro is a plea to encourage Konkani in our homes.

The pleasant voiced Jose de Agasaim sings ‘Opareo’, Socorro and Aniceto pay tributes to the ‘Gandhi family’ and Socorro continues with the thought provoking ‘Bodduk’. Prinyanka recounts the various ‘Goenchim Festam’ (wonder how she forgot the feast of the Holy Spirit), Socorro, Tony and Aniceto describe the importance of water, electricity and fuel on ‘Tin Vostu’ and Socorro with Sonia continue with ‘Duddu’, ‘Xetkar’ by Justino de Sta Cruz narrates a tale of a farmer and is rendered well, while ‘Soao Joao’, the final track is a quintet describing the feast celebrated in Goa.

The good lyrics, singing and some great backing music by Agnelo Dias make this album a must buy. Go for it!
